Early Years Admissions

Nursery

Admission to Nursery

Applications for a Nursery place should be made by contacting the school office. School will then inform parents/carers by letter if they have been successful in gaining a place. If the school is unable to offer a place because of over-subscription, their name will be kept on a waiting list. If a place becomes available, it will be offered to the applicant on the waiting list who ranks highest in accordance with the published admission criteria.

Admission Policy for Nursery classes

The LA provides nursery education to three-year olds and four-year olds leading up to their statutory school starting age.

The over-subscription criteria for admission of pupils to a nursery class where demand is greater than places available is as follows in priority order:

  1. Looked after children
  2. Children living in the catchment area
  3. The presence of a brother or sister already in the main school.
  4. Any remaining places are allocated to children according to the order that they are on the waiting list. Children at the top of the list will be giving priority.

Children with a statement of Special Educational Needs where the statement names the specific school will take priority.

Home Visits

Before your child starts Nursery, staff will arrange a visit to your home to meet parents and the child. This enables parents to have dedicated time to be able to ask questions and tell us all about their child. Staff can meet the child in the setting where they feel most comfortable in, developing trust, communication, and a strong relationship between families and staff from the beginning.

Stay and Play

In the spring term children and families will have the opportunity to attend two sessions at Nursery with their parent or carer. This helps the child become familiar with the setting and an opportunity to meet some of their new friends.

Reception

Admission to Reception

Reception class places are allocated by the Local Authority. Please see the link in our admissions section of the website to find the key information and forms you will need for the application process.

Transition into Reception

Once your child has been offered a place at our school, they will be invited to spend a few hours in school to give them an opportunity to become familiar with their new surroundings. You will also be invited to an introduction meeting. If you are new to our school, this will give you an opportunity to meet the staff and see our provision. At this meeting, we will share basic information about starting school in September and some of the key routines. During the autumn term, you will be invited to other sessions where we share information about supporting your child’s learning.

Starting School

In September, your child will initially come into school for one week of mornings plus lunchtime: from 9.00 am until 1.00pm each day. From the second week of term, they will stay in school full time: from 9.00am until 3.30pm. Each day, the children will be collected from the yard, by staff at 9.00am and dismissed from the blue gate in the Reception outdoor area.
